Two men have appeared in court after a farmer was threatened with a sledgehammer.


The men are thought to have approached the farmer after he disturbed an attempted burglary at his property at Drumhillery Road, Middletown, County Armagh, on Saturday (31 July).

The farmer arrived at the farm at about 8.45pm to find the two men, one of them armed with a sledgehammer, trying to enter a shed.

The men, aged 21 and 37, threatened him before driving off in the white van they had arrived in.

They were later arrested in Crossmaglen.

The 21-year-old is charged with 33 offences including burglary, theft, criminal damage and motoring offences.

The 37-year-old is charged with 29 offences including burglary, theft and road traffic offences.
