Mid-May OKfor sheep
SHEEP may be permitted at livestock shows as early as mid-May, depending on risk assessments by DEFRA divisional vet managers.
Rules for attendance of other livestock, cattle, pigs and camelids were announced today (Friday) by DEFRA and are available on its web-site (www.defra.gov.uk) or in leaflet form from DVMs.
Shows will need to meet specific conditions; no susceptible animals will be allowed on the show area 28 days before and after the show, and they must be licensed, according to a DEFRA spokesperson. "Show organisers will also need to appoint a biosecurity officer."
Producers showing animals will also need to meet requirements for isolating animals on farm (see Livestock p39). *
