MIDLANDS Co-op Dairies has launched a new recruitment drive to secure direct milk supplies from dairy farmers.
The Staffs-based company, through its producer group Heart of England, is offering to pay early opt-out penalties for producers who want to leave their existing milk buyer.
MCD already buys nearly half its 200m-litre annual milk requirement directly from producers. General manager, David Rimell, said he hoped to achieve 80%self-suficiency by the end of this year.
The co-op offers a milk price of 25.288p/litre for a standard litre of 4.1% butterfat and 3.3% protein. There are no transport deductions and producers can also choose a level payment or seasonally adjusted price.
