Milk Marque to deny farmers membership
FARMERS will no longer be able to demand membership of Milk Marque under plans by the cooperative to end its “buyer of last resort” role.
In a drive to become more commercial, Milk Marque wants to change its constitution to stop the right of dairy farmers to demand membership.
Paul Beswick, Milk Marques managing director, said it was bad business to give every supplier the automatic right to join the organisation.
The news comes as the milk industry awaits the publication of a year-long investigation into the industry by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission.
The report is expected recommended changes to Milk Marques role.
