Milkers meet strong trade

AN INCREASED demand among northern buyers for in-milk dairy cattle strengthened trade at the North Western Holstein Friesian Breeders Club sale at Crewe where 96 heifers averaged £922.

The top price of 1300gns was paid twice by J R and C E Jones, Shrewsbury and &#42 G Bean, Kirkbymoorside, North Yorks.

Messrs Jones secured Bringlee Celsius Mariska, a calved heifer out of a Pickard-Acres Vic Kai sired dam from Lees Dairy Farmers, Market Drayton.

Heading for Kirkbymoorside was Saxelby Clyde Penny, a Hanoverhill SS Clyde calved heifer out of a milky 11,200kg Ocean-View Dixiecrat cow.

A homebred son of Hanoverhill Skybuck – Newroddige Sun -sired the 1250gns Newroddige Honeysuckle 34th, a calved heifer from J Mallaber and Sons, Burton-on-Trent. Buyers were Newton-Jones and Co, Wrexham.

Mr John Edge of the Cheshire-based Wimboldsley herd judged the show classes and found his champion in Mrs A Arrowsmith and Sons Wems Kanso Gwen from their herd at Market Drayton. She realised 1200gns to Newton-Jones and Co.
