Millennium B&Ws peak at 6500gns
THE Genetics for the Millennium sale of Holstein Friesians got off to a flying start at Crewe last week when the first animal in the ring made the top price of 6500gns.
Watergate herd owners John Hunter and Tom Craigs Dynasty Mandingo SS Primrose – bred from three generations of Excellent All-Britain dams – is carrying an April calf by Celsius.
Her first two lactations have been over 12,000kg and she is No 1 UK cow for PTA for milk and protein, No 2 for PIN and No 4 for ITEM. Buyers were W Hamilton and Son, Blair Drummond, Perthshire.
The 10,411kg dry heifer Olympian Royal Kristel, due in June to Fatal, came north from Chichester with Spiby Partners and headed back to Kent with buyer Jim Warnock, Folkstone at 4400gns.
Averages: Seven cows £3255; five calved heifers £2072; 15 served heifers £1816; 11 open heifers (under 12 months £2004) and 16 open heifers (over 12 months) £2037(Wright-Manley).
