MLC backs Scotch Beef

THE Meat and Livestock Commission committed itself to a marketing drive behind Scotch Beef once the export ban is lifted.

Don Curry, chairman, made the commitment at a meeting in Edinburgh attended by meat-sector representatives.

Some groups have campaigned for more of the £4 million collected in levy fees from farmers to be used to support a specific Scottish initiative.

But the MLC remains lukewarm to the idea, suggesting that such a promotion would not achieve much presence.

Mr Curry said the MLC had to make the best use of the resources available.
