Monsanto meeting puts cloud over Sainsbury
LORD SAINSBURY, the science minister with links to the biotechnology industry, met officials from Monsanto while he was involved in government discussions about genetically modified (GM) food.
The revelation is likely to raise fresh concerns about a possible conflict of interest between Lord Sainsburys business matters and GM issues within government.
The science minister, with family business interests in GM food, met three Monsanto executives in his private office at the Department of Trade and Industry on 14 December.
The meeting came three weeks after Lord Sainsbury attended the first meeting of the Cabinets Ministerial Group on Biotechnology and Genetic Modification.
