More bulls from MOET
GENUS is to increase use of its Northumberland-based MOET nucleus herd to evaluate top cow families for contracting young bulls for its Sire Improvement Programme (GSIP).
It reasons that by evaluating top cows in a single nucleus herd, under the same management system, it will be better placed to identify the true genetic merit of the animals. Genus bases its decision to source more young bulls from its MOET herd on the success of MOET Masters bulls in the latest ADC UK proof.
run from the Animal Data Centre.
Nine of its top 10 bulls with progeny test proofs have come from families selected for MOET Masters. It says this is proof that evaluating cow families is a clear indication of the quality of bulls that will later return a progeny test proof.
