Moslem sheep slaughter vid

COMPASSION in World Farming has launched its annual campaign to stop the export of sheep destined for slaughter in Paris during the Moslem Eid-el-Kabir festival. The animal welfare campaigners have produced a video, which they are urging farmers to watch, to see what happens to the sheep during the March festival.

Peter Stevenson CIWFs political and legal director said: "We are appalled that, year after year, British farmers are willing to send their sheep to face the horrors of Eid-el-Kabir ritual slaughter."

But John Thorley of the National Sheep Association said there was very little that could be done. Farmers did not like the idea but needed the export market. "No farmer, no matter who he is or where he is would condone adverse welfare," he said.
