Most people prefer the rural life

MOST people – seven out of 10 – would prefer to live in the countryside rather than the town, according to a Gallup poll carried out for estate agent Strutt and Parker.

They would also prefer to live there if there were no obstacles to doing so – a preference endorsed by those already living there.

Some 87% of those living in the countryside said they preferred the higher quality of life.

But the survey also reveals that 50% of those surveyed think the countryside looks worse now than it did 50 years ago.
