Mystery blaze hits swine fever farm
by FWi staff
INVESTIGATORS are examining the cause of a mystery blaze at the farm which last month reported Britains first case of swine fever in fourteen years.
Flames swept through a 500 ton straw stack at Facons Bottom Farm, Iken, near Woodbridge, Suffolk, just after dark on Tuesday (12 September).
Fire fighters had to go through precautionary decontamination procedures to ensure that the swine fever was not spread after bringing the fire under control.
Fire appliances which entered the protection zone imposed in a bid to stop the disease spreading also had to be specially cleaned.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
