New areas for badger culls

THE NFU has welcomed the announcement of two new triplet areas for the badger culling trial which is aimed at determining whether there is a link between TB in cattle and TB in badgers.

Junior agriculture minister Joyce Quin made the announcement that the new areas are on the Staffs/Derbys border and the Devon/Somerset border.

The new areas mean that eight of the planned culling trial sites have now been agreed and an NFU spokesman said the announcement was a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
