New guidelines for farm visits

By FWi staff

NEW guidelines for the safety of pupils and teachers visting British farms have been published by the Health and Safety Executive.

The guidelines, which are the result of a working party set up by the National Association of Farms for Schools, set out practical advice for farmers and teachers such as washing hands thoroughly after touching animals, only eating in designated areas and always following the farmers instructions.

The guidelines will be mailed to a range of agricultural organisations, local authorities and NAFS members.

More than 10 million people visited open farms last year, making them the UKs fastest growing visitor attraction.
