New post at Milk Link

PLANNED expansion in the processing sector by ambitious dairy co-op Milk Link has led to the formation of a new post at the group.

Mark Brooking, a Devon farmer, has just been announced as membership director with the responsibility to develop the interests of the groups 2700 members. "As the organisation broadens and becomes a major processor as well as a milk marketer he will act as a key link between the members and their business," said chief executive Barry Nicholls.

The co-op, which accounts for about 10% of UK milk production, recently ventured into processing with the purchase of UHT operation Tanner Foods. Mr Brooking would not say what the next purchase might be, but confirmed further bids are on the cards.

"The aim is to significantly increase the processing side of the business. Growth will come from a mixture of expanding our own capacity and new acquisitions." &#42
