New SNFU chief to be named in May

A NEW chief executive of the National Farmers Union of Scotland is expected to be announced on 12 May, members of the Angus area executive heard.

There are five candidates for the post formerly held by Tom Brady, who resigned late last year.

Union members were told to take part in an unprecedented state-of-the-industry survey to provide the Government with facts rather than anecdotes about the deepening financial crisis in farming.

It was also confirmed that the concept of “one man, one vote” is gaining ground in the unions agenda. The union is also looking at creating a new environmental committee.
