Next-generation strob approved

By Peter Read

The UK has become the first European Union country to approve BASFs next-generation strobilurin fungicide, called Opera.

Opera, which will be commercially available next spring, contains the new active ingredient F500 (pyraclostrobin), and epoziconazole.

“F500 is the first strobilurin active ingredient approved in the UK that has preventative and significant curative activity,” said BASFs Tony Grayburn.

BASF believes F500s wheat and barley broad-spectrum foliar disease control will be of most benefit on the flagleaf.

But it does give a moderate level of eyespot control, so could equally be used at T1.

Syngenta expects its strobilurin, picoxystrobin, to be approved next spring.
