NFU director honoured for local efforts
ANTHONY Gibson, NFU regional director for south-west England, has been awarded an honorary degree by Plymouth Universitys Seale-Hayne faculty in Newton Abbot, Devon.
Mr Gibson, who received his degree at the former agricultural colleges annual graduation day, was given the award for his "tireless support of agriculture and the rural development of the region".
The citation for the degree said Mr Gibson had been instrumental in developing a range of economic, social and environmental initiatives aimed at boosting farming. He was praised for his management agreements in the Somerset levels and the Taste of the West, the regions first food group.
The degree was one of only three awarded by Seale-Hayne this year for outstanding achievements and contributions in issues related to the countryside.
