NFU leaders stay put
THERE was no change at the top of the NFU in elections this week.
Deputy presidents Tony Pexton and Tim Bennett were returned for another year in office.
Ben Gill, union president, was unopposed and now begins his second year at the helm.
Five candidates contested the election for the deputy jobs. The unsuccessful three were Richard Haddock, Devon county chairman, Hampshire farmer Hugh Oliver-Bellasis and Rad Thomas, from Leicestershire.
Mr Pexton, who farms 461ha (1140 acres) of arable and grass in East Yorkshire was elected union vice-president in 1992 and deputy president in 1995.
Mr Bennett, a dairy farmer in Carmarthenshire, was first elected deputy president last year following Mr Gills promotion to president.
