THE NFU is planning to establish a new council for horticulture to provide a more effective lobbying voice for the sector.
The proposal was unveiled at a summit, attended by about 30 representatives of the horticultural industry, held on Monday (May 27).
NFU president Ben Gill said the move would help attract the industrys movers and shakers.
"Our ambition is to create, under the title of NFU Horticulture, a high profile and focused structure that delivers a quality service to what is a complex and diverse industry." *
The union is consulting on the plan as well as other proposals such as forming issue specific working groups to tackle cross-commodity issues like supply chain relations and promotional activities.
It also plans to create growers database, listing members particular concerns and interests.
