NFUS wants cull cash diverted
THE National Farmers Union of Scotland is lobbying for £3 million set aside for a cull ewe scheme to be diverted into meeting the costs of removing specified risk material from ewe carcasses.
The intended £3m handout to the cull ewe scheme was recently declared illegal by the European Commission.
Another suggestion is to channel the money into the hill sector under a health and safety heading, rather than agriculture,.
This would avoid being caught by the rules of the common agricultural policy.
