Nitrogen improves manganese uptake

CROPS sprayed with Omex Manganese Plus absorb up to three times more of the nutrient compared with straight manganese sulphate, according to maker Omex Agriculture. Beneficial effects also last longer, it claims.

The product contains nitrogen which acts as a penetrant, helping manganese to pass into leaves. Extra sulphur and magnesium also help keep plants green and stress-free, it adds.

Crops at risk of manganese deficiency, notably on high organic matter, high pH soils, and in fluffy seed-beds, should be sprayed at three leaves or more with 0.75 litres/ha (0.53pt/acre) of product. Cost is £2.59/ha (£1.05/acre). Twice as much is needed if deficiency symptoms can be seen.
