No Dorset washout

WET weather failed to drown a reasonably encouraging day for Dorset Horn breeders at the Dorchester May Sheep Fair last week.

A total of 5000 females and 200 rams were offered, though with some longer-established purchasers absent. "This suggests some people are leaving the industry. But younger people are coming in, and are proving very discriminating," said auctioneer Andrew Robinson.

Average prices at the fair for ewe lambs were £55-60 and £75 for hoggets. Draft ewes averaged £50. (Symonds & Sampson). &#42
