No end to fraud yet
EUROPEAN Commission proposals to reform the EU fruit and vegetable regime wont end fraud and large scale destruction of surpluses, says a House of Lords report.
The report, by the Lords European Communities committee, claims the proposals will penalise the efficient producer and act against the interest of the consumer and will do nothing to end intervention.
Although it supports the commissions plans for a corps of inspectors, the committee doubts it will be an adequate deterrent. *
