No EU sackings

MOVES to sack all 20 EU commissioners over their mishandling of the BSE crisis have been dropped by the European Parliament.

The commission survived the censure motion, originally tabled in February, after Euro-MPs decided it had taken sufficient steps in the past six months in response to their recommendations.

According to German MEP Dagmar Roth-Behrendt, who led the BSE temporary committee of inquiry, the parliament was satisfied that the commission was now more transparent, had made improvements in the monitoring and scientific side, and was now putting consumer health at the top of its agenda.
