No French ban on travellers’ blood

FRENCH officials have decided against banning blood donations from people who travelled to Britain at the peak of the BSE crisis.

Deputy health and social action minister Dominique Gillot said a committee of experts reported that the risk of transmitting new variant Creutzfeldt Jakob disease by blood was still unproven.

Five to 10 per cent of Frances blood donors visited Britain during the high-risk BSE years.
