No scab vaccine yet

A SHEEP scab vaccine may not be available for at least 10 years, according to the government.

The new £1.2m project to find a vaccine and study the spread of the disease is likely to last initially for three years.

But in the House of Lords last week, MAFF spokesman Lord Lucas said that even if everything went perfectly, which was not expected, it would take seven years to develop a "useful vaccine".

"We should be pleased if we had a vaccine in 10 years time but it may well be longer," he added.

Lord Gallacher asked if the research work could be accelerated but Lord Lucas said he did not believe this could be done. &#42
