No tax hopes high

HOPES were high ahead of Wednesdays Budget that the government would not impose the long-threatened pesticide tax and accept the 27 alternative measures proposed by the industry instead. Announcing a tax would rub salt in the wounds of UK farming, said Anne Buckenham, director general of the Crop Protection Association. "We should be given the chance to deliver our commitment, protect the environment and help to save UK farming in the process," she said on Monday.
