Non-pedigree cows boosted by trade

THE improving dairy cattle trade is bolstering prices for non-pedigree milkers.

And this was the case at Broadhembury, Honiton, Devon, where Messrs J Barker and Partners herd dispersal saw cows and calved heifers level at £819.

A non-pedigree heifer by Botermijn 757 and her heifer calf by Etazon Leaf reached 1520gns selling to C Bishop, Feniton.

A second calver by Foxholes Panatella made 1050gns to D Parish, Uffculme. And another in her second lactation by Burgate Benedict made the same price to Messrs Dare Bros, Dalwood, who also took two other autumn calvers at 1000gns apiece.

The sale took eight females to 1000gns and over with bulling heifers by Etazon Glandorf and Kol Hiltop peaking at 455gns and yearlings by Sunny Boy to 440gns.

Averages: calved and in-calf cows and heifers £819; heifer calves £270; bulling heifers £445 & yearling heifers £380. (Stags)
