Oats cut in Kent

EIGHT-AND-A-HALF hectares (21 acres) of winter oats were combined last Tuesday (30 July) by Kent farmer David Harrison, who farms at Biddenden.

October drilled Gerald yielded about 5t/ha (2t/acre), which is average for the farm.

“The headlands did worse due to the wet winter, but the main body of the field was good.”

He says they are about 5 days earlier than usual. The farm is based on heavy Weald clay.extremely pleased and yields have often been above average.”
