Off-peak electricity reminder

WITH British summer time due to end this Sunday (Oct 31), farmers should ensure timers are in step with off-peak electricity tariffs, says the Farm Energy Centre.

Time switches can slip out of adjustment, and accumulated errors can be costly, it adds. For example, a one-hour error on a water heater could add £50/year to charges.

Older designs can be checked by examining the sealed time switch controlling the meter; with newer ones, the easiest way is to contact the electricity company, says the FEC.
