Officials monitor pig-based flu virus
PUBLIC health officials are watching the emergence of a new strain of flu virus in Hong Kong apparently transmitted to a 10-year-old girl from pigs.
Flu experts in Britain said the viruses are very similar to viruses which been cultured from swine in Europe for a number of years.
They are monitoring the situation because the flu pandemic that travelled the world killing some 20m in 1918 was thought to have its origins in pigs.
