Oilseed rape spray strategy advice

VARIETAL susceptibility to light leaf spot and phoma stem canker must be considered when planning oilseed rape fungicide strategies this autumn.

"Few new varieties, except Express, have good combined resistance," says Andy Selley of fungicide maker Du Pont.

Bristol growers should "definitely spray". Apex also "responds well", despite a light leaf spot resistance rating of 7. Autumn applications can save up to £100/ha (£40/acre) where there is only moderate disease threat, he says. Phoma is a particular threat to Nickel, he adds.
