Onions bring tears to India
A SHORTAGE of onions in India is causing prices to sky-rocket – and threatening to unseat members of the Government.
A kilogram of onions currently sells for upwards of 50 rupees (70p), more than eight times the price this time last year.
The scarcity has been caused because of a shortfall in domestic production of 40% this year.
India has been unable to import from Dubai and Pakistan.
