Onions cause political upheaval in India
THE Indian onion shortage has resulted in the resignation of Delhis chief minister who was forced to quit after he suggested that poor people should stop eating them.
The local administration is also set to be thrown out because of the outrage over a boom in onion prices.
Poor growing weather and market manipulations have sent the prices of all Indian vegetables soaring, but the price of onions, a staple food product, has risen the most.
