OP authority is to rejoin MAFF panel

LEADING organophosphate scientist Goran Jamal is to return to the governments medical and scientific panel, which is assessing the effect of OPs on humans, eight months after quitting on a point of principle.

Dr Jamal resigned in Dec after refusing to sign a new MAFF agreement that sought to prevent panel members giving evidence in court cases involving OP sufferers.

But he has decided to return to the panel after junior farm minister Jeff Rooker told him this week that he would not have to sign the agreement.

"Mr Rooker said there was absolutely no contradiction in serving the public on committees and serving the court of justice. I am delighted to go back on the panel.

"I resigned because I felt it was fundamentally wrong that I should not to be able to give evidence as an expert witness in an unbiased way, and I now feel totally vindicated," Dr Jamal said. &#42
