Optimism high for the future

BUCKING the recent trend of some commentaries on land prices in the future, agent Strutt & Parker remain optimistic that current values are likely to remain.

"Although arable area aid is set to decline, the set-aside area is also reducing and contrary to earlier belief, the harvest looks set to be much better than anticipated," says the firms James Laing.

Having sold £91m worth of agricultural property since January this year, and with some £500m waiting to invest in farmland, there seems no reason for prices to fall, he says.n
