Organic milk future

ECONOMICS of organic dairying look encouraging, according to results from an Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research study at Ty Gwyn dairy farm, Trawsgoed, Aberystwyth.

Costings from the study, run with University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and ADAS, put the overall gross margin in the year before conversion (1991-1992) at £62,752, with total fixed costs at £39,251.

For 1992, the figures worsened to £59,022 and £39,306 but improved in the following year to £73,454 and £45,528. &#42
