OSR slightly below average in Suffolk

WILLIAM HAMILTON, who farms at Little Stonham near Stowmarket in Suffolk has combined oilseed rape which has yielded below average.

Thirty-two hectares (80 acres) of Tradition was below the farm average of 3.7t/ha (1.5t/acre). But he likes the new variety, “it was very easy to combine, and it stood well.” The crop was dessicated, but the farm usually swathes.

There is 133ha (330 acres) of wheat to combine, which should be ready in 10 days. “It looks better than it did a few months ago, but I am not expecting a great crop.” The farm is based on clay soil.
