OSRarea aid cuts look on the cards

BRUSSELS is expected to cut area aid payments for oilseed rape growers by about 3% for their 1995 crops.

As FARMERS WEEKLY went to Press on Wednesday (Jan 24), EU officials confirmed there would be no penalties for overshooting base areas, as determined by the Blair House agreement with the US.

But oilseed values this season have been more than 8% above the so-called world reference price, enough to trigger some cuts in area aid. The exact amount was expected to be confirmed at the end of the week.
