Pearl below average at Louth

ROGER DOUGLAS, who farms at Thorganby, near Louth in Lincolnshire, has cut some Pearl winter barley and some oilseed rape.

The Pearl has yielded below average and the nitrogen is 1.92%, therefore not making malting standard. “Im not sure whether malting barley is worth the risk for a small premium.”

The oilseed rape harvest has started. The yields are variable. They have combined Pronto and moved on to Gemini on Friday (3 August). The Gemini may have a pod-set problem.
