Pedigree cattle registration up

REGISTRATIONS for pedigree dairy cattle are rising as breeders look to cash-in on the demand for genetically superior animals for restocking programmes and expanding herds.

Holstein UK announced this week that registrations have risen 6% on the previous year to almost 192,500 animals.

The interest in pedigree stock also continues to be witnessed at the ringside, say auctioneers. According to Mark Elliot of Uttoxeter-based Bagshaws restocking money in the aftermath of foot-and-mouth and a poor milk price has divided buyers. &#42
