PGR lift for wheat

PLANT growth regulator sequences can boost wheat yield in the absence of lodging, according to trials by manufacturer BASF.

Sites from East Anglia to Aberdeen were treated with a sequence of split dose New 5C Cycocel followed by Terpal.

Lodging was virtually absent from the trial sites last year. But yield increases were equal to or above the cost of treatment and were highest in the north, says the companys John Peck.

Scotlands return was £32/ha over a fungicide-only strategy, after allowing for chemical cost.n
