Philippine coconut exports jump 10%
THE export of coconut products from the Philippines rose 10% to 2.1 million tonnes last year, according to the countrys United Coconut Association.
The country also increased its overseas sales of coconut oil by 13% to 1.2m tonnes, the trade organisation said.
Adverse weather conditions were expected to damage the countrys export growth.
Crops were damaged by a severe drought in 1998, brought on by the El Niño and La Niña weather patterns.
The Philippines, together with Indonesia, accounts for about 80% of global coconut oil supplies.
