OUR Farmlife/Euro Toys competition drew a record response – a huge number of entries of a very high standard.

The first prize was a Siku farmers set (ref 6351) worth around £45.99. The set comprises 1.32 scale die-cast models of a Steyr tractor, a Deutz tractor with front-mounted mower, a Claas tipping trailer and a hose-reel irrigator and nozzle. We had six Siku farmers sets to give away plus 10 runner-up prizes from the Bruder range of large model vehicles. These are John Deere tractor and tipping trailer sets (ref 02395) worth around £19.95.

The competition was open to children of five years and more who were not yet 12 on the closing date. They were asked to picture farm work in progress, any sort of work so long as it involved tractors and tackle. And we didnt mind what materials were used, so long as the result was a bold picture that would reproduce well on our pages.

As usual choosing the winners was a hard task. In considering the entries the judges were looking for artistic merit and a real interest in farming. They also took competitors ages into account in drawing up the prize list.

We hope all those who did not get a place on it do not feel too disappointed. We hope to run another toy competition before too long. Meanwhile if you would like more information about Euro Toys and Models and the address of your nearest stockist, please write to Euro Toys and Models Ltd, Euro House, Llansantffraid, Powys SY22 6BH.

PAINT a picture of a farmer at work caring for his or her livestock, we said inviting young readers in the five to 12 age group to compete for 14 Ertl toy tractors we had to give away.

These are such good models of vintage Massey-Harris 555s that they are really collectors items. They are to 1/16th scale and worth £30.

The judging panel which studied the hundreds of entries we received had a tough job but finally agreed upon the 14 winning ones which are reproducedhere. Contestants were asked to imagine that their pictures would appear on the front cover of farmers weekly and as you will have seen we have used one for this purpose – that is the work of 10-years-old Emma Gould of Rodgrove, Wincanton, Soms.

Visitors to the Royal Show (July 3-6) will be able to see all the winning entries displayed on the farmers weekly stand.
