Pig business puts 320k into feeding technology

THE British Pig Executive has agreed a major investment in state-of-the-art feeding technology at the Stotfold Pig Development Unit.

BPEX claims the investment will bring direct cost benefits to British producers.

Wet feeding systems allow producers to exploit low-cost feeds.

The investment will provide the best available technology as a basis for developing new, lower-cost techniques and systems, said a spokesman for BPEX.

The 320,000 project, which involves two buildings accommodating 800 finishers and a computer-controlled wet feeding system, will enable comparative research on a range of issues including flooring systems and feeding regimes.

Final approval for the development has been given by BPEX, and orders have been placed for the building work and wet feeding system to be put in place.
