Pig diseases call
DANISH pig industry representatives are calling for a Europe-wide pig disease monitoring scheme to combat disease outbreaks quickly and improve consumer assurance.
Speaking at a Danish Meat and Bacon Council conference in London, Andreas Toft Fensvig managing director of Danske Slagterier, the Danish equivalent of the MLC, said such a system already existed in Denmark.
"Because the Danish pig industry is integrated, communication from producer to abattoir makes monitoring simple," he said.
"The recent rise in cases of blue ear caused by live vaccines was spotted quickly and a programme devised to minimise the effect." *
