Pig farmers lobby supermarkets

SCOTTISH pig farmers are threatening to lobby supermarkets in the north and north-east of Scotland in a bid to ease the plight of the industry.

The North of Scotland Pig Discussion Group at Thainstone voted to monitor supermarkets claims to source home-produced products.

The scheme is modelled on a successful one devised by the British Pig Industry Support Group.

The Scottish National Farmers Unions pigs committee is also setting out on a marketing crusade.

Each local authority in the east of Scotland will be visited by three representatives who will outline the problems facing the Scottish pig industry.
