PIG marketing success goes to Scotlean as winner of the first National Pigmeat Marketing Award presented at the Fair.
Scotlean is an independent co-op established in 1980. It now has 113 members and markets 12000 pigs a week. Producer members use their collective buying power to buy £6m worth of goods a year, so securing significant savings.
Scotleans efficiency means it has returned an annual dividend to its members higher than the marketing levy charged. Managing director, John Barron said: "The most important ingredient to ensure success of the co-op is producer commitment."
