Plenty of demand for spring calvers

SPRING calvers were in strong demand when P and L Bawden, Wellington, Somerset, offered 129 dairy cows and followers. A crowd of almost 100, including bidders from Cornwall and the Midlands, produced a brisk trade taking prices to 700gns on two occasions.

Freshly calved cattle and stock to calve in April and June were the most expensive.

Two freshly calved third calvers reached 700gns claimed by M E Turner, Chard and F Pearce and Son, Devizes. Dry cows due with their second calf reached 700gns for one taken by N Bacon, Ilminster.

A bunch of eight Ayrshires sold to 560gns given for a Chang Headmaster heifer due with her second in June. Buyers were Dare Bros, Axminster. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt).
